Calcium carbonate supplement at 18 mg: why it is a trace
A calcium carbonate supplement at 18 mg is a trace amount. MemoHoney prints calcium (as calcium carbonate) at 18 mg, 1.5% of the Daily Value. An adult needs about 1,000 mg a day, and the one memory trial we found used 1,000 mg with vitamin D and saw no effect on thinking tests.

Is the calcium carbonate supplement in MemoHoney a meaningful dose?
The calcium carbonate supplement in MemoHoney is a trace, not a meaningful dose: one capsule prints calcium at 18 mg, or 1.5% of the Daily Value (MemoHoney label).
Adults need about 1,000 mg a day from all sources, and men over 70 about 1,200 mg (NIH ODS, Calcium). Eighteen milligrams is under 2% of that. A glass of milk holds many times more.
The calcium row probably does little on its own. The label does not say why it is there, and we will not guess.
How does 18 mg compare with what studies used?
It is roughly 55 times less than the 1,000 mg of calcium carbonate used in the memory-related trial we found.
That trial followed 4,143 women aged 65 and older for about 7.8 years. Calcium carbonate at 1,000 mg plus vitamin D showed no difference in dementia (39 against 37 cases) or in tests of thinking (Rossom 2012, WHI calcium + D). A Cochrane review reached a similar view for vitamin and mineral strategies in general (Rutjes 2018, Cochrane vitamins). The chart below puts all five label amounts next to the doses studied.
- L-Arginine (base + AKG extract)400 mg on the label
Studies: 6.4 g a day in one memory pilot; up to 30 g a day for 90 days in a safety trial. Studies used about 16 to 75 times the label amount. (Teotia 2026, oral arginine pilot) (McNeal 2018, arginine 30 g safety)
- L-Citrulline (HCl + malate)200 mg on the label
Studies: 3 to 9 g a day in exercise and blood pressure trials; no memory trial found. Studies used about 15 to 45 times the label amount. (Chen 2016, BCAA arginine citrulline) (Trexler 2019, citrulline meta)
- Beta Alanine40 mg on the label
Studies: 1.6 to 6.4 g a day; ISSN says 4 to 6 g a day; no cognitive change in the one test found. Studies used about 40 to 160 times the label amount. (Hoffman 2014, beta-alanine soldiers) (ISSN beta-alanine stand)
- Niacin7.5 mg on the label
Reference: 16 mg NE is the Daily Value; 35 mg a day is the upper limit for supplements. The label is 47% of the Daily Value and 21% of the upper limit for supplements. (NIH ODS, Niacin)
- Calcium18 mg on the label
Reference: adults need about 1,000 mg a day from all sources; the cognition trial used 1,000 mg with vitamin D. The label is about 2% of what an adult man needs in a day. (NIH ODS, Calcium) (Rossom 2012, WHI calcium + D)
Log scale: each gridline is ten times the one before. Studied ranges are daily amounts from the trials linked on each row; the arginine row compares the label's 400 mg (200 mg base plus 200 mg of an AKG extract) with arginine studies, and the citrulline row 200 mg (two forms) with citrulline studies. Niacin and calcium rows show reference levels, not study doses. A bar being far away does not mean the capsule is unsafe or useless; it means the study results cannot be borrowed for it.
| Measure | Amount |
|---|---|
| One MemoHoney capsule | 18 mg (1.5% DV) |
| Adult recommended intake | About 1,000 mg a day |
| Dose in the women's trial | 1,000 mg with vitamin D |
| Upper limit, ages 19 to 50 | 2,500 mg a day |
Does a calcium carbonate supplement interact with medicines?
Yes, calcium carbonate can interact with levothyroxine, quinolone antibiotics, dolutegravir and lithium, though the interaction depends on the amount taken (NIH ODS, Calcium).
At 18 mg the risk looks small, but we found no source that tests this capsule, so ask your pharmacist if you use any of those medicines. Calcium carbonate is absorbed best with food and can cause gas or constipation in larger doses.
Keep taking prescribed medicine exactly as directed. Chest pain, fainting or trouble breathing means call 911. Ask your doctor or pharmacist first if you take nitrates, sildenafil-type medicines, blood pressure medicines or blood thinners, or have had a heart attack, because the arginine rows can interact with them.

FAQ
MemoHoney questions people ask
How much calcium is in one MemoHoney capsule?
One capsule prints calcium (as calcium carbonate) at 18 mg, which the label gives as 1.5% of the Daily Value. At one capsule a day, that is the whole daily amount from the capsule.
Can calcium carbonate help memory?
We found no trial showing that it does. A trial of 4,143 older women using 1,000 mg of calcium carbonate with vitamin D found no difference in dementia or thinking tests. MemoHoney's 18 mg is about 55 times smaller than that dose.
Should you take calcium carbonate with food?
Calcium carbonate is absorbed best with food, according to NIH. The MemoHoney label, though, directs one capsule with 8 oz of water, best 20 to 30 minutes before a meal. Follow the label, and ask a pharmacist if you take a medicine calcium can affect.
