What is L-arginine AKG 2:1 extract?
L-arginine AKG 2:1 extract is a form of arginine paired with alpha-ketoglutarate (AKG), written "2:1" for two parts of one to one part of the other.
AKG is a molecule the body makes in its energy cycle. Sports products pair it with arginine as arginine alpha-ketoglutarate. The panel does not define the "extract" or give its ratio by weight, so the exact arginine share is not known.
What do AKG studies on arginine show?
They show gram-level results in exercise, not in memory.
In one trial, 35 trained men took 12 g a day of AAKG for 8 weeks. Bench press and peak power improved, and body composition did not (Campbell 2006, AAKG). In another, 24 men took 12 g a day for 7 days: blood arginine rose, but blood flow and nitric oxide markers rose equally with placebo (Willoughby 2011, AAKG). We found no memory trial of AAKG that is free of other ingredients.
