L-citrulline side effects: what do studies report?
L-citrulline side effects in studies are mild and short-term: stomach discomfort occurred in 6 of 41 people in one study, and trials up to 6 g a day for 4 weeks reported no adverse effects. Long-term safety is poorly assessed. MemoHoney lists two citrulline rows totaling 200 mg per capsule.

What L-citrulline side effects do studies report?
The L-citrulline side effects reported are mainly stomach discomfort, and serious harm has not been reported in short studies.
The NIH exercise supplement review says short studies up to 6 g a day for 4 weeks reported no adverse effects, while stomach discomfort occurred in 6 of 41 people in one study (NIH ODS, exercise supplements). A review of blood pressure trials, with doses of 3 to 9 g a day for 1 to 17 weeks, found a small pooled drop in systolic pressure (Barkhidarian 2019, citrulline BP). Those trials were small.
How reliable is the citrulline safety data?
It is limited: the studies are small, short and use gram doses, so they cannot describe years of use or a 100 mg row.
| Question | What we found |

| Short-term, up to 6 g a day | No adverse effects in studies up to 4 weeks |

| Long-term use | Not well assessed |

Can citrulline affect blood pressure?
It can, a little: pooled citrulline trials found systolic pressure fell about 4 mm Hg, while the diastolic change was not significant.
The effect was clearest at 6 g a day or more, and a capsule holds far less. Still, tell your doctor or pharmacist first, and keep taking prescribed medicine.

Stop and call a clinician for dizziness on standing, a rash or stomach trouble that does not settle, and call 911 for chest pain, fainting or trouble breathing.
- Dizzy, faint or lightheaded on standingA sign blood pressure may be too low, especially with nitrates, ED medicines or blood pressure medicines. Sit or lie down, stop the capsules and call your doctor.
- Chest pain, fainting, trouble breathingCall 911 now. Do not drive yourself, and do not wait for a supplement to help.
- Stomach pain, bloating or diarrheaThe common side effects of arginine. Stop and ask a clinician if they last.
- Rash, hives or swellingPossible allergy. Stop and get medical help; swelling of the face or throat or trouble breathing is an emergency.
- Memory slipping fast, getting lost, repeating questionsThese are warning signs NIA lists for a medical check. See a clinician rather than waiting for a supplement to help.
Signs from (Mayo Clinic, L-arginine) (NIA, Memory problems and aging) (FDA report a problem). This list is not complete. A supplement is never a reason to wait.
Memory problems that are new or getting worse need a clinician, not a supplement.
How does this relate to MemoHoney?
MemoHoney has two citrulline rows, HCl and malate, 100 mg each, and it contains no honey.
It is a dietary supplement, not a drug. The capsule also holds arginine, whose cautions are stronger; see the side effects page and the L-citrulline page.

FAQ
MemoHoney questions people ask
Is L-citrulline safe to take daily?
Short studies up to 6 g a day for 4 weeks reported no adverse effects, but long-term safety has not been well assessed. Stomach discomfort occurred in 6 of 41 people in one study. Ask a clinician if you take medicines or have a condition.
Does citrulline malate cause stomach upset?
It can. One study found stomach discomfort in 6 of 41 people. The doses in exercise trials were grams, far above the 100 mg of citrulline malate on the MemoHoney label, so the label amount may be gentler.
Does L-citrulline lower blood pressure?
In small trials at 3 to 9 g a day, systolic pressure fell about 4 mm Hg on average. We make no claim for the capsule. If you take blood pressure medicines or nitrates, ask your doctor or pharmacist first.
Who should avoid L-citrulline?
The sources we used do not name a group. Be careful if you are pregnant, nursing, under 18, or have a medical condition, as the MemoHoney label advises you to consult a physician first. Also ask about nitrates and blood pressure medicines.
